Henry Berkeley is acting for the Chief Justice who is absent

on vacation leave, being instructed by the Crown Solicitor, representing the Crown when the claims for compensation are heard by the Land Court. The cases come on almost immediately,

and the claimants having retained a strong bar and every Firm

of Civil Engineers in the Colony on their behalf, I considered

it prudent that the Crown Solicitor should have this assistance.

I have also approved of Mr. Shelton Hooper, Secretary to the

Land Investment Company, being engaged to assist the Director

of Public Works in any valuations that may be necessary on

behalf of the Crown.

11.

For the necessary expenditure incurred for

obtaining the services of these gentlemen. I have the honour

to request your approval.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

Treury Amake

.

Governor, &C..
